My daughter and I used to go to Golden Corral in Brandon FL when she was little. The food was VERY fresh and it was always a great place to go and have fun eating whatever you wanted to try. We liked GC so much we even just went there for my birthday dinner. Well immediately upon walking in, I knew something was up. The white fish (something I usually get) was dried up and shrunken in its pan under the heat lamps. The names of the items were all wrong and had nothing to do with what was under the signs. The soups were dried and caked around the edges in the soup tureens. The whole place smelled like cleaning fluid like Lysol or something and it was a stronger aroma than the food. The dinner rolls (something I usually like) were rubbery and coated with a butter flavored oil. My daughter tried the pizza and said the bottom had a gross coating on it but the top was good so she tried to concentrate on the top part and ignore the bottom part. The pecan pie was good, mainly because they didn't have to do anything to it, just thaw it. But even the blueberry pie which also was frozen had a taste like they stored it in the cooler with no cover or cling wrap over it and it absorbed the smells of the walk-in. Okra was past its prime, and in fact everything was past its prime, that is a good way to sum it up. Amber was a nice waitress, but they were missing that special crew member who goes around stirring, checking and wiping everything to make sure it is fresh and looks good.

It's not the best Golden Corral. The food was just not that good. Just wasn't that yummy comfort food we typically get. Also, the dishes were coated in crumbs or debris of some sort. Seemed like the plates were dirty. Couldn't get a refill on our large upgraded plastic cups. Had to flag down a server from a different area to facilitate. I wouldn't eat at this location again.
On a side note, the previous Golden Corral I visited was in South Carolina while traveling, and it was pretty good. In fact, we visited twice during our stay in that area.

This is the perfect place for a person that don’t care about what they eat. Food was cold, chicken was not cooked, the restaurant wasn’t very clean, and when you go to the bar it smells. When we talked to manger about the raw food his response was we will make sure we increase the cook time, while the raw pan of chicken still seating on the bar.

I went here on a Sunday and then again during the week, both times for lunch. It was like two different restaurants. During the week, the food actually seems fresher, more flavorful, and less watered down. Admittedly it was a post-hurricane weekend, but Sundays visit was horrible. During the week, my waitress was extremely attentive, polite, and upbeat; my dirty plates always went away and my drink had several refills, all before I had finished the one I was on. On Sunday, it was a mess, I was only able to get her to refill my soda once, she would ask how I was doing while in the process of moving on to the next table; I would say she was just too busy (which I would've understood), but I noticed there were 2 of 3 tables that she was very attentive with and even had a rather lengthy conversation with one couple while her rear end was practically in my face.
The atmosphere was also night and day different. On Sunday it was a mad house, there were quite a few people there with infants, I even had to wait while one guy burped his baby over the buffet. I just can't believe a big business like this, that regularly deals with families, has no plan for customers coming in with children too young to eat there. At the very least, why aren't people with infants put into a separate section just for them? On the weekday, it was absolutely lovely! The noise level was what a normal restaurant is and I could hear my dining partner without us having to yell at each other. The fewer patrons was nice for better buffet access, but just simply not having to be on guard for people making unexpected stops or turns in front of me was great - it's like driving in 5 o'clock traffic vs driving in the mid morning, and my nerves were quite thankful for the change.
All in all, I'll be going here again, but it's going to be on a weekday.
